Lyndon Strang at Stony Creek
Lyndon Strang has had two successful projects with SSS Irrigation over the last few years. The first one was in 2018 when they installed a fixed grid irrigation system on his farm. SSS Irrigation handled the design and layout, while Lyndon could do the labour himself – a flexible and cost-effective solution that suited Lyndon’s requirements perfectly.
Why did they choose SSS Irrigation?
Lyndon decided to work with SSS Irrigation for a few reasons. First of all, he liked the system itself, with sprinklers that have a gentle application, not too harsh or aggressive. Some sprinklers can rough up the soil, Lyndon says, but these sprinklers are very gentle on the soil.
He also chose SSS Irrigation for its affordability and flexibility. The fact that they could do a lot of work themselves meant that the solution was more cost-effective. Overall, SSS Irrigation’s pricing was very clear from the start – with no added costs.
How was the experience working with SSS Irrigation?
The process was straightforward and our experience was really good, Lyndon says. In addition to completing the design and layout, SSS Irrigation offered the service of looking at the farm and assisting with location and putting poles up.
"They gave good advice and put a lot of care into the project, understanding our farm and situation so they could build a system to match that. Stu was very passionate about getting the design right. His enthusiasm was excellent and you can tell that they care about their customers."
Lyndon also points out that the beauty of Stu’s solution is that they can do small amounts at a time, as much as the budget allows rather than the whole farm. SSS Irrigation has given them a 4-5-year plan that they can implement in stages, which works very well for Lyndon.
What were the results?
Their projects went exactly to plan and it’s working really well. Lyndon says that they’re using less water and putting it on more efficiently. And with a fixed grid system, they don’t need to move the irrigators which means less labour. In the end, they now have an irrigation system that is more environmentally sustainable, which was part of their initial plan.
