The initial project with Ben and Caroline Innes took place in 2016 when they designed and planned a fixed grid irrigation system for them. SSS Irrigation supplied all the equipment, GPS marked the location and organised everything, while Ben handled the installation. In September 2020, they began their second project – extending the irrigation systems to about 50 hectares.

Why did they choose to work with SSS Irrigation?

Ben looked at many different options when they began researching irrigation systems, but the shape of the area was best suited for a fixed grid system. K-line wasn’t a viable option since they didn’t want to shift the sprinklers every day. The choice came down to SSS irrigation simply because it’s a very good system that works well.

How was the experience working with SSS Irrigation?

After supplying the fittings and the pipes and completing the design, Ben did the installation himself. But SSS Irrigation organised the project well and was there to offer advice and assistance so that the system would operate hassle-free.

“They did a great job of setting it up and getting it going. Since then, I’ve learned the system and can do it all myself. But Stu is very helpful when I do need assistance. He knows what he’s talking about”, Ben says.

What were the results?

Ben has noticed fantastic results since they installed the fixed grid irrigation system.

"It’s changed my whole farming system and given us the ability to shift from a straight store property to a finishing property."

He also points out that the new system has given him a lot more options. With 350 millimetres of rain a year, being able to add an inch every week makes a massive difference to their growth. "Once it’s operating, it’s hassle-free. It’s an awesome system and it works very well".
