Irrigation System

What is the SSS Irrigation System?

The SSS Irrigation System is a fixed grid / solid set irrigation system with sprinklers permanently mounted on posts, 1.8 meters above the ground and spaced approximately 41 meters apart. Each sprinkler is controlled by wireless technology or by individual timers. Watering times are infinitely variable, allowing for different soil types and flexible application rates.

We use our proven SSS Irrigation fixed grid / solid set system to design layouts for any landscape with a range of post and row spacings to suit the requirements, which vary depending on available water pressure and windage issues. Our sprinklers are designed and constructed in Dunedin, using injection moulding equipment and dyes. The sprinklers are plastic fibre reinforced to resist ultraviolet deterioration and last a lifetime. Using the latest bolt-on parts, the sprinklers can be modified to improve performance continuously.

What makes the SSS Irrigation System market-leading?

Our irrigation systems have been carefully developed over 20 years to suit any landscape and bring you exceptional results. It's a cost-effective and efficient alternative to many other systems on the market, with performance that outruns its competition.

  • Lowest cost per hectare for static or fixed grid irrigation.

  • Tailored solutions to meet your needs and budget.

  • The most efficient form of irrigation.

  • Night watering and rapid application rates are efficient in calm, cool conditions.

  • Efficient use of valuable water resources – the ability to irrigate at night means no evapotranspiration losses.

  • The system doesn't require any landscape modifications, alteration to existing fence lines, or removal of shelterbelts.

  • With high application rates, you'll have shortened run times resulting in less energy usage.

  • Full design to install or further cost savings can be made by installing yourself.

Performance

SSS Irrigation Application Chart and Distribution Uniformity

Test 2 = PF 24 with 12mm bird cage nozzle with thrusting bias.
Test 2 = PF 24 with 12mm bird cage nozzle with thrusting bias.

These figures are achieved at operating pressures of 4 bar in calm conditions at a uniform post spacings as shown of 40m on flat contour. (note: currently using 41m)

Average application rate = 8.98mm/hour at 4 bar.

Distribution Uniformity

Low ¼ average volume = 8.32mm
Average volume = 8.98mm
Distribution Uniformity = 92.65%

*Calculate the Distribution Uniformity DU = Low quarter average volume ÷ average volume

  • Sprinkler operating at 4BAR.

  • Departure velocity is approximately 120 km per hour.

  • Throw radius 33 meters, i.e. 66 metres diameter in calm conditions.

  • Distribution uniformity (DU) at 92.65%

Post spacings

The sprinklers and posts are set in a grid pattern with spacings adjustable according to water pressure or windage issues. Alternate rows are offset 50% to give even diagonal distances (see the above image as an example).

Installation and pricing

Every project is different and overall cost is based on a number of factors such as design layout, area size, terrain, labour for installation, wireless versus battery timers and fluctuating prices for components such as pipes and fittings etc.

For an estimate of pricing on your property please contact us for a free concept design.

If you choose to complete the installation yourself, we offer onsite instruction throughout the process along with detailed design maps and a complete installation manual.
